The story follows the tales of a young travelling musician and thief, Mouse, who leads a self -willed and lonesome life. It seems like it might be similar to the stamina meter in Chrono Cross. These bars decrease when actions are taken. The game also makes use of an "Action Counter System" which is shown at the top of the battle screen and is represented by vertical red bars. It's unknown at this time what exactly the Posture option is used for, but the others are pretty much self-explanatory. Reiselied's battle system menu includes the following options: Special ability, Magic, Item, Posture, and Run. If your timing's off, you might miss meeting up with certain characters. For instance, certain events in the game will only take place when the player is in the right place at the right time. What makes this interesting is that it's not just some gimmick to throw in ads or on the back of the box, this realistic movement of time plays a major role in the game's play. The player can tell the time by looking at these clocks and they change time in realtime. What this means is that the time of day is a major factor in the day and the time can even be measured by clocks that are in the towns and houses. Where the realism is set to lie is with the fact that the game is said to be completely realtime.įor example, when the onscreen character is walking around in the world map and then enters a town, instead of getting some sort of transition or load screen, the camera will seamlessly continue from the view from outside into the town.įurthermore, the game flows in realtime. Konami's goal is to create one of the most realistic role-playing games ever developed. The majority of the talk about the game surrounds its realism. Based on the general quality of those four titles, it comes to nobody's surprise that its upcoming RPG for the Sony PlayStation2, titled Reiselied (which is German for " Travel Song"): Ephemeral Fantasia, is one of the system's most intriguing games. Whilst action and action/adventure titles are the company's forte, Konami has also managed to put out a few quality traditional and strategic role-playing games, namely Suikoden I and II, and Vandal Hearts I and II.
